The 1st Thurnby Guides are a lively and energetic group of girls between 10 and 14. They are helped and supported through the exciting programme by their leaders. The Guides are split into different patrols, made up of about 5 girls. Each patrol elects their own patrol leader and activities are normally planned by individual patrols.

guide There is a wide range of uniform available to chose from. We can choose our own uniform from the range - there is no rules to say what we must have. We all look slightly different but it doesn't matter as long as we feel comfortable in what we wear. guide

When we feel ready to make our promise, we can choose when where and who comes! The promise is similar to most of the other Guiding sections but we also have our own Guide Law.

I promise that I will do my best:
To love my God,
To serve the Queen and my country,
To help other people
and To keep the Guide Law
A Guide is honest, reliable and can be trusted.
A Guide is helpful and uses her time and abilities wisely.
A Guide faces challenges and learns from her experience.
A Guide is a good friend and a sister to all Guides.
A Guide is polite and considerate.
A Guide respects all living things and takes care of the world around her.

The Guide Programme is varied and is focused around the girls having fun and learning new skills. It is split into 5 main sections -

healthy lifestyles
global awareness
skills and relationships
celebrating diversity
discovery (of new experiences and adventures)

go for it To help the girls cover the 5 areas they complete a series of Go For Its! The Go For Its cover a wide range of subjects including water safety, football and party planning.

Go For Its are not the only activity for Guides to do, they also have Interest badges to collect. The interest badges develop skills and themes that they have already seen in the Go For Its. Like the Brownie interest badges the Guide badges are varied. Here are some examples -

active response
cook
discovering faith
party planner
team player

Guides have the chance to gain Challenge Badges when they have been in Guides for over a year. It shows not only the commitment that the Guide has made but is a celebration of what she has done. She can choose the colour of her challenge pin! To gain a challenge badge a Guide should have, amongst other things, completed two Go For Its! been a reliable member of their Patrol and taken part in a community action activity.

bp challenge The highest award a Guide can achieve is the Baden-Powell Challenge. It is an individual challenge and the girls must have made their promise, and achieved 2 challenge badges and 2 interest badges. It is an opportunity for the girl to be involved in planning and carrying out activities that are individual to her. It is normally started near the end of her time in Guides. To gain the award she must complete 10 challenges taken from the 5 different areas of the programme and also take part in a challenge weekend. This weekend is normally run by the county and involves guides from all over Leicestershire to make it extra special!

The Guides meet during term-time, if you would like more information please contact us.
